Myths About Green Tea and Green Tea Supplements

There has been a lot of talk lately regarding green tea and green tea supplements which are widely sold today in groceries, as well as health stores. However, you should not believe everything you hear about green tea because not all information out there is correct. Some of them can be very misleading. Green tea does your body a lot of good but just like everything else in this world, green tea also has its limitations. It is not a miracle worker although it delivers a lot of benefits to the body. One of the things which have been talked about a lot lately is green tea weight loss. So, before your expectations get a little bit too much, we are going to break down the myths about green tea.

Myth 1: Green tea helps you lose weight fast. Although it is true that green tea can help increase your metabolism by up to 4%, it is not enough to make you lose weight fast. Relying on green tea alone will not make a huge difference on your weight. You also need to make changes in your diet and lifestyle if you want to be able to lose weight much faster. For example, one of the things you can do to facilitate weight loss is to replace caloric drinks with the goodness of water or drink green tea instead.

Myth 2: Green tea has less caffeine than black tea. This is not really true. The amount of caffeine does depend on the color of the tea. It depends on the age of the leaves which are processed to become tea. Younger leaves have more caffeine compared to older ones. Bigger leaves also contain more caffeine.

Myth 3: Green tea can affect your sleep. A lot of people are afraid of drinking green tea before bed because of the caffeine it contains. The truth is green tea contains L-theanine which has a relaxing and calming effect. Green tea does not make you lose sleep, it improves sleep.
