Reducing Insulin Resistance

Reducing insulin resistance is a task that more and more people are in need of taking on. As the years go by more and more people are being diagnosed with insulin resistance and diabetes and the most notable precursor to these conditions is the onset of the resistance of insulin.

So what happens when the body resists insulin? The answer to this question is somewhat simple and yet quite complex. You see the body was designed to take food in, digest it, and turn it into glucose so that it could be transported to all the cells of the body via the arteries. Insulin is then used to metabolize the glucose and deposit it into the cells thereby eliminating the glucose from the blood and returning blood sugar levels back to their long-term state.

You can imagine now what happens when things don’t go as they should. When blood sugar levels rise and insulin is deployed the body doesn’t react to it fast enough to reduce insulin levels. Eventually blood sugar does return to normal however the process can take either a long time or more insulin is produced to get the job done timely.

When more insulin is produced this results in blood sugar tests which return normal despite elevated levels of insulin. This suggests that even though insulin levels are normal you should still work to reduce insulin resistance because your body is not acting as it should.

So how do you go about improving insulin resistance? This is easy if the problem is not widespread or well developed. Exercise is actually the easiest and most efficient way to lower insulin resistance and lower insulin levels back to a normal range. Not only is it the easiest but the exercise doesn’t even have to be of high intensity either. Many medical studies have shown that simply exercising moderately every day is all that it takes to stay active enough o prevent insulin resistance from developing.

If however you have other risk factors such as obesity or genetic predisposition then decreasing insulin resistance may end up being a bit more of a challenge however it shouldn’t be anything insurmountable with the proper diet and exercise routine.

Remember, reducing insulin levels and reducing insulin resistance is not something to be taken lightly or pushed to the back-burner. If you have the warning signs such as elevated insulin levels then you need to take steps to reduce insulin resistance today as everyday of inaction is one step closer to a much more complicated situation. After all, treating insulin resistance naturally is possible but treating advanced diabetes is not. You don’t want to take it that far.
