Using Facial Treatments for Better Skin

Using facial treatments is a popular practice in skin care.  You can find facial treatments for all skin types and most skin complaints.  Some of them are natural and you can make many of them yourself with ingredients you might have on hand in your own kitchen.

One of the best facial treatments for all skin types is exfoliation.  Exfoliating regularly is a critical part of a good skin care routine.  Dead skin cells can over accumulate on the surface of live skin, leading to dryness and flakiness.  These skin cells also impede the absorption of your skin care products, preventing them from working as intended.  Removing this problematic layer will lead to smoother skin that better retains hydration, and better results from the active ingredients in your skin care routine.

Another facial treatment that is essential for all skin types is moisturization.  Even oily skin can benefit from increased hydration, especially if you choose a moisturizer that contains antioxidants or natural botanical ingredients.  Well-moisturized skin ages better than skin that dries out.

Your skin type will be the main determining factor in choosing your best facial treatment.  You can also choose formulations that address a specific skin complaint, like wrinkles, discoloration, large pores, dark circles, or acne.

Dry skin needs extra moisture, and can use heavier creams than other skin types.  People with dry skin can actually use oils directly on their face.  Jojoba, rosehip, and carrot seed oil are great choices for dry skin.  It is also important to exfoliate.  This skin types often has a great deal of dead cells attached to the surface of the skin, which is often the cause of the dry skin.

Oily skin treatments typically focus on detoxifying and reducing skin oil production.  Clay masks work best for this skin type.  Look for masks that contain French green and Dead Sea clays.  Certain active ingredients like retinol that list dryness as a side effect are beneficial for oily skin.

If you have sensitive skin, you should look into using all natural skin care products that contain soothing botanical ingredients.  Oatmeal, aloe, chamomile, comfrey, and lavender have been used for centuries in skin care.

If you are trying to prevent aging, look for products that contain a lot of antioxidants, like Vitamin C and green tea extract.  Antioxidants scavenge free radicals that damage skin cells and are a major contributor to both internals and external aging.  Daily sunscreen use is also critical in the fight against aging, especially in the summer months.

You’ll get the best results from facial treatment from using them consistently.  It’s best to use natural products whenever possible.  Avoiding harsh synthetics is one of the most important things you can do for skin health.
